Cat boarding

Cat boarding in Singapore: how to prepare your cat for a cat hotel stay

Going away? What a good cat hotel will ask for, what to pack, and how to make your cat’s stay calm and comfortable.

Cats like routine, so a stay away from home can feel strange at first. With a little preparation, most cats settle in quickly.

What a cat hotel will usually ask for

  • Up-to-date vaccinations and deworming. This protects your cat and the other guests. Check your cat's records a few weeks before you travel, in case a booster is due.
  • A cat licence. All pet cats in Singapore need one.
  • Good health. If your cat is unwell, on medication or has special needs, tell the cat hotel before you book.

Book early for the holidays

Cat hotels fill up quickly around school holidays, Chinese New Year and December. Book as soon as you know your dates.

Visit before you book

A good cat hotel will be happy to show you around. Look for clean, quiet rooms, enough space for your cat to move and hide, and staff who are comfortable with cats.

What to pack

  • Your cat's usual food (enough for the stay plus a little extra), so its tummy doesn't have to adjust.
  • Any medication, with clear written instructions.
  • Something that smells of home — a small blanket or a favourite toy.
  • Your contact details and your vet's details.

On the day

  • Use a secure carrier.
  • Keep goodbyes short and calm.
  • Tell the staff about your cat's habits: how it likes to be handled, favourite games, and anything that scares it.
